چکیده

This paper proposes an optical word indexing system based on fuzzy logic for 17th century printed documents. A pre-processing stage assures only interesting word candidates are considered. The main image-space indexing procedure builds fuzzy membership functions from oriented features extracted using Gabor filter banks. It proceeds by comparing this data with candidate word features and assigning each a similarity value. Results on a significant test set found over 85% of all word occurrences with a false positive rate of less than 20%.

Using syllable-based indexing features and language models to improve German spoken document retrieval

Spoken document collections with high word-type/word-token ratios and heterogeneous audio continue to constitute a challenge for information retrieval. The experimental results reported in this paper demonstrate that syllable-based indexing features can outperform word-based indexing features on such a domain, and that syllable-based speech recognition language models can successfully be used t...

A comparison of sub-word indexing methods for information retrieval

This paper compares different methods of subword indexing and their performance on the English and German domain-specific document collection of the Cross-language Evaluation Forum (CLEF). Four major methods to index sub-words are investigated and compared to indexing stems: 1) sequences of vowels and consonants, 2) a dictionary-based approach for decompounding, 3) overlapping character n-grams...

Fuzzy Clustering Approach Using Data Fusion Theory and its Application To Automatic Isolated Word Recognition

In this paper, utilization of clustering algorithms for data fusion in decision level is proposed. The results of automatic isolated word recognition, which are derived from speech spectrograph and Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) analysis, are combined with each other by using fuzzy clustering algorithms, especially fuzzy k-means and fuzzy vector quantization. Experimental results show that the...
